Former members of the National Assembly from the Southwest Zone under the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) have sought support for the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, to remain in office until after the next elections. general in the general interest of the party. .

The former lawmakers urged all party loyalists in the region to put aside all personal interests and work for the party’s success in the upcoming general election in 2023, despite the ongoing leadership struggle.

According to the statement, “We would like to appeal to all South West party leaders to delay a little in demanding that the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, step down as part of the measures to resolve the continuing crisis in the party”.

They argued that “it can still cause imbalance and instability within the party if allowed to linger”.

While acknowledging the concerns raised by all party leaders and other stakeholders on the need to ensure justice and fairness in the party structure, former lawmakers noted the merit of the South West’s inclusiveness within the party but argued that it should come after the general election. .

According to them, “Beyond that, we feel very strongly that, what is important now is to work as we have done in Osun State and win the next presidential elections, National Assembly, Governors and State Assembly, our concerns right now should be how to win the next polls, then other things will follow.

The former lawmakers also applauded the Party’s presidential candidate, Waziri Abubakar Atiku, for finding time out of his busy schedule to visit the South West region as part of the ongoing nationwide consultations ahead of the 2023 general elections. .

In the same vein, the former legislators praised Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for hosting the meeting during the Party presidential candidate’s visit to Zone, which was unprecedented.

They also heaped praise on all PDP leaders and party members for turning out in large numbers to attend and participate in the consultation meeting where they expressed their views.
