A BALLYMENA man has admitted to harassing an ex-girlfriend whom he threatened to leak “intimate images” online.
At Ballymena Magistrates’ Court, a prosecutor said the woman had an affair with David Lamont, 50, from Drumtara in the town, but in the end received ‘undesirable contact’ from him . There were text messages and then emails when the number was blocked.
The lawyer said that on one occasion around 1 a.m., the woman received an email in which Lamont “threatened to post intimate videos of her online, which caused her great concern and distress”.
When questioned, he confessed that the email account belonged to him and he was the only person with access to it. In court, he admitted a harassment charge and his lawyer said he now regretted it and apologized.
A defense lawyer told the court on Thursday that “alcohol was a factor” in the offense and said the relationship ended on “bad terms”.
The attorney said Lamont messaged the next day apologizing for his late-night post.
District Judge Nigel Broderick adopted a recommendation in a pre-sentence report and placed him on probation for a year on the condition that he participate in the “Respectful Relationships” program and a two-year restraining order was also placed. square.
