Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 16 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday launched the “Lucky Bill” app which aims to tackle GST (goods and services tax) tax evasion by encouraging people to upload original invoices of their purchases to win prizes, including a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh.
At the launch here, Vijayan said the app’s aim was to prevent tax evasion by encouraging people to request an invoice each time they make a purchase and download it through this software.
“Often customers walk away without asking for an invoice after making a purchase. The goal behind the app is to prevent that,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that Rs 5 crore is earmarked in this year’s budget for this project.
The app has been prepared in collaboration with Kerala Digital University and is the first of its kind in the country, he added.
As part of the project, there would be daily, weekly and monthly prizes as well as a special prize, by raffle, for those who upload their bills via the app.
Apart from Kudumbashree and Vanashree gift boxes as well as KTDC tour packages as prizes, there would also be a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh, he said, adding that prizes worth Rs 5 crore would be awarded each year.
“Therefore, people should request the invoice and download it,” he said.
Vijayan further said that tax collection is important for the development of the state and for this the cooperation of the people, traders and government officials is essential.
Last week, the government announced that the app would be launched on August 16.
The struggling government is looking for ways to boost revenue, and officials said the app would also allow the state GST department to review tax returns using invoices. uploaded by people.
This decision also comes at a time when the Centre’s GST compensation ceased effective July 1.
It is not yet clear whether the compensation scheme would be extended as required by Kerala and various other states.
Officials had said the app would also allow the state Department of GST to review the status of tax returns.
“This application will ensure that taxation rules are strictly adhered to,” they said. PTI HMP NVG NVG
