ANNAN’s drum major finished third in the World Bagpipe Championships on Saturday.
Gibb Fraser has been playing with the Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band for 14 years and has already enjoyed varying degrees of success with six major championships to his name.
His current awards have all been for the youth categories, three for Scotland, two for the World Championships and one for the European Championships.
But after a two-year covid break and becoming old enough to compete in the adult categories, Gibb took on his toughest challenge yet on Saturday.
He said: “Juvenile is one thing, but playing with adults is another challenge.
“With two years away due to Covid, it feels good to be back there this year, to get together with everyone to see the band again and the friends I’ve made through it too.
“It’s built on years of practice and coming of age in my second year there and placing in those big shows is good for me and good for the group.”
Collectively, the band ends the 2022 season with a fourth-place sophomore at the World Bagpipe Championships.
A group spokesperson said: “We’ve had an incredible season, winning prizes at every championship this year and winning the European Championship.
“The hard work will begin soon this winter to ensure the group remains on top of the second year for the upcoming 2023 season.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported the band throughout the year.”
