Government launches Jaldoot app to capture water level of wells in villages: Newsdrum

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) The Union Ministry of Rural Development on Tuesday launched a mobile app that will enable gram rojgar sahayaks to measure the water level of selected wells twice a year – before and after the monsoon.

The Jaldoot app was jointly launched by Ministers of State of Ministry of Rural Development Faggan Singh Kulaste and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and MoS of Ministry Panchayati Raj Kapil Moreshwar Patil.

In a statement, the ministry said an adequate number of measurement locations will be selected in each village and they will be representative of the groundwater level.

This app will be used nationwide to capture the water level of two or three selected wells in a village. Manual monitoring of water levels in open wells will be carried out twice a year – before and after the monsoon – according to the statement.

Jaldoots, the staff responsible for measuring the water level, will upload the geotagged photographs via the app at each measurement opportunity, the ministry said.

The app will facilitate panchayats with solid data that can be used for better work planning. The groundwater data could be used as part of the Gram Panchayat development plan and MGNREGA planning exercises, he said. PTI JTR SMN
