New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) The government is working on a new iteration of the Data Protection Bill and proposing a Digital India Act to make the online world more responsible, the Minister of Intelligence said on Monday. computer and telecommunications, Ashwini Vaishnaw.

During the launch of the second batch of Cytrain Setu, Vaishnaw said the government would launch a new telecommunications bill within a week.

The Minister said that a new version of the Data Protection Bill and a proposed Digital India Bill are in the works.

“What we’re looking at is making the online world more accountable for what’s posted there. People who are in law enforcement and policy makers, all of us, have a role to play. But we also need to put a greater sense of responsibility within social media, the internet, the tech world itself,” Vaishnaw said.

The government has withdrawn the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill 2019 to replace it with a new bill with a “comprehensive framework” and “contemporary digital privacy laws”.

The bill, to regulate how an individual’s data can be used by business and government, was introduced on December 11, 2019. It was referred to the Houses Joint Committee for consideration and the report of the committee was presented to the Lok Sabha on December 16, 2021.

Vaishnaw said technologies can also be used to prevent crimes.

The minister said there is now a global consensus among the G-20 group of digital ministers on the need to make technology providers equally accountable for the things they provide.

Speaking about the Cytrain Setu, which offers an online PG degree in cyber law, criminal investigation and digital forensics, Vaishnaw said 56 district judges, IAS officers, IPS officers, inspectors, prosecutors, tax department officers and CBI have joined. the lot for training.

The Minister asked the judicial community for further suggestions based on their experience in the day-to-day operation of the judicial system.

“Very soon we will introduce a new telecommunications bill. I am sure you are all aware that the role of telecoms in the digital world is very, very important. Tactically, everything is consumed through the mobile phone.
