MoRTH Releases 58 RTO Services Based on Aadhaar Authentication : Newsdrum

New Delhi: Up to 58 citizen-centric services related to driver’s license, vehicle registration and transfer of property can now be used online with the help of Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) said on Saturday that providing such contactless and faceless services would go a long way in saving critical time for citizens while easing their compliance burden.

As a result, attendance at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) is expected to drop sharply, leading to greater efficiency in their operation.

The online services for which a citizen is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis include – application for learner’s permit, issuance of duplicate driving license and renewal of driving license for which the driving ability test is not required.

In addition, issuance of an international driving permit, change of address in the driver’s license, application for the transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle, among others, are also part of the online services for which a citizen is required to voluntarily submit to Aadhaar authentication.

According to the notification issued by the ministry on September 16, anyone who does not have an Aadhaar number can avail this service in physical form by establishing the identity by physically submitting an alternative document to the respective authority in accordance with the CMVR 1989.
