Support a Troop is a new app that allows anyone to send support to deployed troops.
TAMPA, Florida, USA, March 22, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Built by a former US Army soldier who served at Fort Drum, NY, and deployed to Afghanistan in 2016, Support a Troop has was founded as a way for anyone to send personalized med kits to troops to show their support. The app works both ways, however, with troops able to send pictures and messages to donors.
The Support a Troop app offers links to buy and send items ranging from clothing and personal care items to snacks and drinks. The easy-to-download app shows what troops are asking for and how to send care packages.
“We bridge the gap between deployed troops and the people who support them,” said Brandon Dutkiewicz, founder of Support a Troop. “This app allows deployed troops to have personalized care kits sent to them by people who want to show them their support. And the troops can return the favor by sending messages and photos to those who give so generously.
App means troops get exactly the products they need and want
Sending care packages is an important and long-standing tradition in America. While troops’ basic needs are met while overseas, Care Packages are a welcome home that troops receive while in the field. They can be sent to friends, neighbors, siblings or even complete strangers. They help troops stay connected to their homes despite the distance and their current living conditions.
Dutkiewicz said he got the idea for the app while deployed to Afghanistan. Getting a care package, he said, is better than unwrapping presents on Christmas morning. But he said in Afghanistan, what he has seen too often is care packages arriving but sitting unused, with some even thrown away as the same items were sent in almost every package.
With help from a developer, Dutkiewicz designed the app as a way for home fans to send in exactly the items the troops want and need. The app allows shoppers to see what items are in demand, put them in their cart, press buy, and have packages shipped directly to requesting troops. Then, those who donated the items to the troops can track the progress of the items and receive push notifications when the troop has sent a thank you message and thank you photos.
So far, the app has sent 6,302 personalized gifts to deployed soldiers, with all gifts coming directly from soldiers’ wish lists. Currently, more than 350 deployed soldiers are using the app, many of them in Europe to support NATO forces.
