New Delhi, Oct 11 (PTI) The Delhi Municipality announced on Tuesday that a child’s name can be added to the online birth certificate up to four years after birth and it will be approved automatically.
Previously, the online process took 7-10 days, a senior official said.
“Now parents or guardians can have names added to children’s birth certificates online for up to four years after birth, and the process will be automatically approved,” he said.
Many parents have approached the civic body saying that they have to submit documents to the schools for the admission of their children and that due to the longer wait time for approval from the civic authorities, they were facing hassles, the official said.
“Delhi Municipality has taken an important step for convenience of citizens and simplification of the system. In order to empower citizens in birth registration process, by providing automatic approval for online addition of name of a child, up to four years after delivery,” the MCD said in a statement.
According to the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1949, if “the birth of a child has been registered without a name, the parent or guardian of that child shall, within the prescribed period, furnish particulars of the name of the child to the registrar either orally or in writing and after which the registrar will enter that name in the register and the initial and date of the entry,” he said.
“The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is making every effort to provide better quality civic amenities to the citizens using its available resources. The MCD is committed to making the system simple and transparent in the public interest so that there is no there is no unnecessary delay for basic civic amenities and citizens do not have to rush to company offices,” he added.
