Patterning 2 app for circular drum machine coming soon to iOS

One of the best music maker apps for iOS gets a follow up.

Patterning – the drum machine app for iOS that uses a circular interface to create beats – is being updated. Patterning 2 will be released in June/July this year and will add many new features and workflow improvements.

One of the biggest additions is the ability to record patterns with a new drum pad page or an external MIDI controller – previously, beats had to be dialed in the app’s concentric circles interface.

Other new features include the ability to randomize instrument parameters, including panning, filter cutoff and resonance, step-by-step tuning and velocity, clicker to create choppy rhythms, and new folders of samples.

It also includes a drum kit change function to apply as many kits as you want to any number of patterns in a song, quantized pattern launch to change patterns on the fly, and coarse quantization for a improved melodic sequencing.

The original Patterning was released by Olympia Noise Co in 2015 and remains one of the best music making apps for iOS. Patterning 2 won’t be released until June or July, but you can pre-order it on the App Store for $14.99.
