A man from Salina led police on Sunday in a pursuit that led to his arrest and multiple charges.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester told KSAL News the incident started around 9:50 p.m.

Agents have been dispatched to the Illinois and Merrill area for a disruption. While on their way, they were informed that a man had kicked the front door and that an altercation between a man and a woman was in progress and that the man threatened the wife. An officer arrived and observed a red Chevy Cobalt backing down the driveway of a residence in the 700 block of Merrill. The vehicle struck the garage door causing damage. The vehicle, seeing the officer, fled in an easterly direction over Illinois. A pursuit ensues. Top speed was 85 mph in the 30 mph zone as they headed east on Cloud. The chase was interrupted due to the speed. The vehicle was found a few minutes later parked on Schipel Drive, and the driver was seen exiting the vehicle and fled on foot. A police K-9 was deployed and took the suspect into custody on the south side of New Horizons Dental Care, located at 1920 S. Ohio Street. He has been identified as Kendall Pickering, a 38-year-old man from Salina. In the vehicle, officers located a methamphetamine pipe and digital scales.

Pickering has been arrested and charges are laid on one count of flight and escape, possession of a stimulant, criminal interference, possession of drug paraphernalia, duty to report an accident involving property damage, reckless driving and several violations of the Traffic Laws. Pickering also had a felony warrant from the Salina County District Court and a misdemeanor warrant from the Salina Municipal Court.
