Hyderabad, Sep 6 (PTI) Telangana Municipal Government Minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday laid the foundations for a solar-powered bicycle lane in Hyderabad.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is developing the 23 km cycle track along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) feeder road between Nanakramguda and Telangana and Narsingi State Police Academy in Kollur, the minister’s official Twitter account said.
Speaking on the occasion, Rama Rao said the 23 km long track would be constructed in the first phase of the project. It would be finished before next summer, he said.
Observing that it is not just a cycle track, he said 16MW of electricity would be produced by the shaded solar panels installed on the 23km long track.
He said 24/7 CCTV surveillance would be in place along the track to ensure safety.
Food kiosks, restrooms, bike parking docks, bike repair stations as well as first aid centers will also be set up, he said.
Bike rental stations where bikes would be available for nominal rent are also planned, he said.
Rama Rao also said that tourism will be promoted in the region as the Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs and the Anantagiri hills have great tourism potential. PTI SJR SJR SS SS
